Dr. Michael P. O’Keefe, an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington, died Dec. 9, 2013.
He was raised in Westwood, N.J. and was a graduate of William Patterson College and the Parker School of Chiropractic, Texas. Dr.O’Keefe, maintained his chiropractic office in Westwood for 15 years prior to his relocation to Wilmington in 2006 and was very active in the Westwood community.
He served for a number of years on the Westwood Board of Health, was a Town Councilman, a member of the Westwood Democratic Party and a parishioner of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Dr.O’Keefe was a wrestling coach for years, inspiring many. He was also an active member of the Westwood Elks, the Westwood Community Band, a longtime member of the Iron Horse Restaurant Family and a dedicated member of the Tri-County Pipes and Drum Corp.
After his relocation to Wilmington, Dr.O’Keefe continued his dedication to community service, becoming an active member of the Wilmington Knights of Columbus and the Wilmington Police Pipes and Drum Corp.
Dr. O’Keefe is survived by his brother, Brian O’Keefe; sister, Patrice and her husband, Roy Archambault; brother, Dennis O’Keefe and his wife, Karen; sister, Karen and her husband, Daniel Hilla; and brother, Timothy O’Keefe. He is loved by his nieces and nephews, Timothy, Catherine, Ryan, Kelly, Michael, Hali, Kevin and Nicholas and many friends.
The family will receive visitors from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1010 Eastwood Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403, followed by a Funeral Mass, at 11 a.m. also at the church.
