UNCW head men’s golf coach Matt Clark has announced the signings of Thomas Eldridge, Patrick Cover and Ross Robison to play for the Seahawks in 2014-15. All three golfers are listed among Golf Week Magazine’s top-100 national recruits.
“I am extremely excited about the UNCW class of 2018,” said Clark. “They will make an immediate impact on the program on and off the course. They have proven that they can excel on the course, in the classroom as well as making a difference to their communities.
“I am excited they are joining the Seahawk Golf Family and I look forward to watching them make putts all over the country the next four years.”
Thomas Eldridge (Raleigh, Millbrook) is ranked 46th nationally in GolfWeek’s national top-100. He’s also ranked sixth in the in the state in the class of 2014. During the summer of 2013, he posted top-four finishes in the Dogwood Junior, (second), Joe Cheeves Junior (tied for third) and AJGA Davis Love Junior (fourth).
Patrick Cover (Huntersville, Hough) is ranked 65th nationally and seventh in the state by GolfWeek. Cover earned second-team all-state honors in 2012 and was named to All-Lake Area first team his freshman through junior seasons. Cover represented the United States in the 2012 USA-China Youth Golf matches and was the winner of the USGA/AJGA Presidents leadership award for his efforts with the Dormie Cup. He created and hosted the Dormie Cup fundraiser which benefitted the Wounded Warriors Foundation, First Tee and Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation. The event raised more than $100,000 in the past four years.
Local product Ross Robison (Wilmington, Cape Fear Academy) rounds out the top-100 signees, ranking 83rd nationally and ninth in the state. Robison was an all-county selection five times during his career with the Hurricanes. He was the City of Wilmington Amateur Junior Champion from 2011-13. In 2012, he was honored as second-team all-state by the Carolina Golf Association. Robison was also a 2A independent all-state selection in 2010 and 2012 and earned all-state honors at the 3A level in 2013.
Robison’s father, Marvin, and brother, Taylor, are UNCW graduates from the Cameron School of Business in 1983 and 2013, respectively.
