The UNCW men’s basketball team opens its 2013-14 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) schedule with a home game in early January against defending champion James Madison and closes out the slate with a bye on the final night of the regular season.
Coach Buzz Peterson’s club plays four of its seven conference games in January at Trask Coliseum, including the league opener on Saturday, Jan. 4, against the Dukes and Matt Brady.
“As always, it’s a very challenging schedule,” said Peterson. “We’re looking forward to all of the league games and especially playing new conference member College of Charleston. We look forward to the challenge.”
In addition to the Dukes, UNCW faces Hofstra, Drexel and Towson at home during the first month of the year. The road schedule in through the first four weeks of the season includes the team’s first conference pairing, with the College of Charleston on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in UNCW’s first league visit to the Low Country.
The Seahawks, 5-13 in league play one year ago, have nine CAA contests in February, starting off with a two-game road trip to Delaware and Drexel. UNCW concludes the final month of the regular season in Wilmington with back-to-back home dates against Charleston and Delaware.
UNCW is the only CAA team with a bye on the final Saturday (March 1) of the regular campaign.
All nine CAA teams will convene in Baltimore on March 7-10 for the CAA Championship at First Mariner Arena. It will mark the first time the CAA tourney has been held outside of Richmond since 1989.
