A Shallotte man has been indicted by a Brunswick County grand jury on charges of first-degree murder and felony child abuse in connection with the death of his infant son.
Randy Lee Richardson, 19, of Shallotte, was indicted July 1 on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the May 28 death of his 4-month-old son, Colton Richardson, according to Brunswick County court records.
Randy Richardson was also indicted Aug. 5 on a charge of felony child abuse inflicting serious injury. The indictment states Randy Richardson repeatedly shook his son–resulting in injury and death–while the infant was under his supervision.
Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office arrested Richardson on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 5.
According to the Brunswick County Register of Deeds Office, Colton Tillman Richardson was born Jan. 31, 2013. Randy Lee Richardson is listed as Colton’s father, and Brandy Nicole Elkins is listed as the infant’s mother.
Defense Attorney James Payne was appointed as Richardson’s attorney and Assistant District Attorney Lee Bollinger will handle the prosecution in this case.
Randy Richardson is currently being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center under a $600,000 secured bond.
